Rabies
Puppies should receive their first DHPP or DHPPC vaccination at 8 weeks old, repeated every 3-4 weeks until 16 weeks of age. It is vital to administer all 3 vaccines for protection.
Rabies vaccine may be given after 13 weeks of age. Current law requires that it must be given by 6 months of age. The vaccine should be repeated in 1 year. After the second dose, vaccinations are current for 3 years.
Bordetella is a vaccine to reduce the symptoms of “kennel cough.” It should be given prior to boarding, showing, obedience classes or other exposures to unfamiliar animals. Vaccine can be given as early as 13 weeks of age. Boosters are given yearly.

Feline Leukemia Virus Rabies
FVRCP vaccinations (pneumonitis, calici virus and distemper) should begin at 8 weeks of age and be repeated every 3-4 weeks until 16 weeks of age. After 16 weeks, the vaccine is repeated yearly.
FeLV (Leukemia) vaccine should be given after 10 weeks of age and repeated in 3-4 weeks, then given yearly after that. If the kitten or its mother has potentially been exposed to Leukemia before vaccination, or the kitten is a stray, the cat should be tested to insure that it does not already have an active infection.
